Save Our Setters really appreciates our Fosters and our rescue would not be successful without you !!

Save Our Setters prefers to pay bills directly to the veterinarian clinic by phone.  Call 901-827-3563 for payment. 

Before through exam our basis protocol is as follows:

• A Thorough Annual Exam 
• Vaccines (age appropriate) as recommended by the attending vet (core plus whatever is recommended for the area)
• Fecal test (treat as recommended)
• 4DX snap test

• Spay/Neuter (if old enough and in good health - to be bundled with other recommended anesthesia procedures like dental, whenever possible)
• Scan for microchip (if none, SOS has our own and will mail one to the foster)
• Bring the dog current on heartworm preventative and flea/tick (normally a 2 month supply)
• Bloodwork on all seniors (9 and up). Your vet may recommend bloodwork for sick dogs and/or for anesthesia procedures.  We do not normally do bloodwork on healthy dogs.
• Until we have a negative fecal result, please pick up poop.  It is advisable to spray the area with a disinfectant like diluted bleach.  As long as your dogs are maintained on a heartworm preventative with a dewormer such as Heartgard there is little cause for concern.
• Fosters should put something on the collar with a contact phone number. Even duct tape is better than nothing.   
• Do not hesitate to call 901-827-3563 should the vet have any questions or concerns about our protocols.
• Irish Setters generally do not do well on drug called Gabapentin.  Please ask the vet for a different product.

When you first receive the foster dog:  We will provide you with all paperwork we receive on intake.  Provide the vet records emailed to you to the vet that you use while fostering.  

Any record that are handed to you by the owner (if applicable) should be scanned and emailed to intake@saveoursetters.org.  

After all vet visits, please scan and email all paperwork handed to after the visit to Alissa at setterrescuemom@gmail.com.

If a CVI is required for transport, please text a picture of the document as soon as possible to Alissa.

When it comes time for your dog to leave, the only paperwork that should accompany the dog is the CVI (if applicable) and the rabies certificate (if available).
